FERNANDO TORRES LIVERPOOLS NUMBER 9

« on: July 02, 2009, 12:44:57 AM »

Following news that Barcelona technical director, Txiki Begiristain had met with David Villa and his agent to hammer out a rough deal, the Blaugrana are now looking to begin negotiations with the player’s club, Valencia.

According to El Periodico, ‘El Guaje’ and Barca had already begun contract discussions weeks ago and both parties finally agreed personal terms during yesterday’s meeting.

And with that out of the way, the Catalan treble champions are now ready to move on to the next stage of the transaction as they seek a definitive answer from Los Che whether or not they are willing to sell their star striker. It has been reported that Barcelona will make one final offer of €42 million and if Valencia president, Manuel Llorente – who is holding out for €50m – still rejects the bid, then they will turn their attention to Atletico Madrid’s Diego Forlan.

Barcelona are aware that they will only require to pay €36m to break the Uruguayan’s buy-out clause, but the fee could even be reduced significantly if they include a player swap, with Keirrison being named as the prime candidate.

With only 20 days to go before pre-season training starts, Pep Guardiola does not want the club to waste any more time as he is desperate to start bringing in reinforcements and he has reportedly given Begiristain one week to seal Villa’s move, or move on to the next potential transfer target.

Thoughts?

To me this is a pretty bad move as forlan is ageing

He is 30 but the guy scored 32 goals last season leading La Liga. He's a scoring machine. He probably has a good 5 years left in him. But I personally think they are crazy for wanting to get rid of E'to cause I can't see them buying Forlan or Villa and keeping E'to. It's too much money in forwards. E'to really has only had 2 off years when he was injured and he still scored in the mid teens. If E'to is healthy and he plays, you might as well give him a goal because he is going to score.

This is crazy. They have Eto'o who doesn't seem ready to stop scoring yet they are ready to push him out just to sign someone who they are not sure can provide them 30 goals a season.
